“King me!” Lonnie commanded with a beaming glow.
The robot, fresh out of the cardboard and packaging foam, chirped with a twinkling of lights.
“How can I ever checkmate so many kings?” the robot hummed.
“The finer points of the game will come to you eventually,” Lonnie reassured his mechanical opponent.
By carefully blending checkers and chess, Lonnie won for now, but the robot was programmed to improve with experience.
When Lonnie turned in for the night, the robot downloaded Google and oiled a few finger joints.
The robot learned quickly, as Lonnie later discovered in the most troubling ways.
