I pass this sign a few times each week, but I didn’t stop to actually read about “Bear Camp” (werebears were not involved, unfortunately) until yesterday.
This is an interesting story considering how sickly George Washington was during his early years (including the incident described on this sign). Without George Washington, I’m sure the history of our nation plays out quite differently.
George Washington thankfully survived his extended stay at Bear Camp. If Washington had died from his “violent fevers”, this sign wouldn’t exist. He’d be just one more soldier lost during Braddock‘s disastrous campaign against Fort Duquesne.
